Reno Loses to Tacoma, 13-0

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces dropped its opening contest to the Tacoma Rainiers, 11-0, on Thursday.

Ildemaro Vargas increased his hitting streak to four games with a double in the opening frame. The veteran infielder also recorded his 34th career stolen base with the Aces when he swiped third in the first inning.

Tacoma put four tallies on the board in the second with a two-run homer by Sam Travis, a solo shot from Jose Godoy and an RBI double from Marcus Wilson to take a 4-0 advantage.

Following a blank third, the Rainiers took a 9-0 lead following its five-run fourth inning.

Ryan Weiss, Jesus Liranzo and Chester Pimental combined to toss four innings and surrender just one run on four hits out of the Aces' bullpen.

Seth Beer extended his hitting streak to three games with a single down the third-base line in the seventh.

Tacoma ended the three-inning scoreless stretch with a pair of solo home runs to push its lead into double digits, 11-0.

Ben DeLuzio and Jake McCarthy smacked back-to-back two-out singles in the eighth to put runners on first and third but, Tacoma staved off the Aces' threat.

The visiting team scored two more runs in the ninth before closing out the game, 13-0.

The Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field on Friday to take the Tacoma Rainiers for game two with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. PT. Friday's contest can be heard on renoaces.com or locally on KPLY 630 AM with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
