WHEELING, WV - Andrew Lord posted a goal and an assist, while Kris Vernarsky scored his fourth goal of the season, as the Wheeling Nailers defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 3-1 at WesBanco Arena Saturday night. With the win, the Nailers jump the Wings for second place in the North Division Standings.

Alexander Smigelski capped off a solid game, when he buried his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 17:43 of the first period. Smigelski received a feed in the slot, and snapped it past Wings goaltender Ryan Nie to give Wheeling the 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo responded, taking advantage of a turnover in the Nailers end. Andrew Fournier intercepted a pass at the blue line and fed the puck down low to Justin Taylor who slipped the puck past Patrick Killeen to tie the game at one.

In the second, the Nailers continued to attack in the offensive zone. Kris Vernarsky picked up the puck off a rebound and fired it past Nie to give the Nailers a 2-1 lead. Andrew Lord made it 3-1, when he threw the puck to the net from a tough angle, and it squeezed past the post and the body of Nie for the goal.

Wheeling preserved the game in the third with solid defensive play, while Patrick Killeen made all the stops down the stretch to complete the 3-1 victory. The Nailers killed off all five Kalamazoo power plays, and outshot the Wings 33-22.

On Sunday, the Nailers play host to the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Bugs Bunny will be on hand to meet and greet with kids, and there will be a post game skate with the Nailers players. To purchase tickets, call (304) 234-GOAL, or 877-NAIL-TIX.
