STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, and Thunder head coach Matt Thomas announced the team has acquired rookie center Pierre-Andre Bureau (Byur-OH) from the Ontario Reign in exchange for future considerations.

Bureau, 26, is expected to be available to suit up for the Thunder for the team's next game, on the road against the Victoria Salmon Kings at 7:05 p.m. (1280 KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) on Wednesday, December 1.

"Pierre-Andre is a dynamic, two-way center who forged a great reputation in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and CIS," said Thomas. "We're excited about his potential, maturity and ability to step right in with his skill set. We're looking forward to his help in filling a need up front with a few key members of our group taking advantage of career growth opportunities in the American Hockey League."

The 5-foot-11, 183-pound pivot spent five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Montreal and Prince Edward Island Rocket, setting a league record with 346 career games played (most by a player with one franchise).

Bureau had his #22 jersey retired by the Rocket in 2009, scored 239 points (87g-152a) and collected 177 penalty minutes in his junior career. He led the Rocket in scoring in 2004-05 while playing for current Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault, breaking career-highs in goals (30), assists (36) and points (66) in 70 games.

Following his junior career, the St-Georges-Beauce, Quebec native skated in 110 games in his college career with the University of Moncton (CIS), averaging over a point-per-game with 116 points (46g-70a) while totaling 102 penalty minutes. He led the program in scoring in each of his final two seasons and totaled a career-high 34 points (14g-20a) and 20 assists in 28 games in 2007-08.

This season, Bureau has collected two assists in nine games with Ontario, participated in American Hockey League training camp with the Manchester Monarchs and was originally signed by the Reign as a free agent on Sept. 3, 2010.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons, was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10. Season Tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets for 2010-11 are on sale now.
