The Isotopes catcher doubled in his first at bat scoring Herrera on the play, giving the Topes a first-inning 1-0 lead. Colorado Springs centerfielder Tyler Colvin put the Sky Sox in front 2-1 in the second inning on his fourth triple of the season. Third-baseman Ryan Wheeler and catcher Matt McBride scored on the play and Colvin was thrown out trying to stretch the triple into an inside-the-park homer.
The Topes leapfrogged the Sky Sox, plating six runs in the fourth taking a 7-2 lead. First baseman Rusty Ryal (1-for-4) and left-fielder Jeremy Moore reached to begin the frame and Ryal was driven home by an Alfredo Amezaga (1-for-3) single. Later, with the bases loaded, center-fielder Chili Buss grounded into a force out allowing Moore to score the go-ahead run and Herrera then added an RBI single. Ryal capped the inning's scoring in his second at bat of the inning with a big two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded improving the cushion to five runs.
Shortstop Justin Sellers (1-for-3) met Roman Colon with his fourth double of the season in the second frame. The California native extended his hitting streak to six games.
