May 21, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres scored three runs without a hit or error in the tenth inning to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 5-2 Tuesday at Werner Park. The win was the Padres second extra-inning victory of the year in two tries.
The Padres went ahead 2-0 in the first inning on Yasmani Grandal's RBI single and Brandon Allen's sacrifice fly. The two runs marked the fifth consecutive game that Tucson scored in the opening inning. Before the Padres current road trip the team had only scored 12 runs the entire season in the first inning, but have equaled that total in the past five games.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth when the Storm Chasers got on the board on Christian Colon's RBI single. Chad Tracy tied the game in the seventh with an RBI single. Omaha had an opportunity to take the lead in the eighth with a runner on third and two outs, but Padres reliever Brad Brach got Johnny Giavotella to fly out to left and end the threat.
Tucson sent nine batters to plate in the tenth inning, drawing four walks, including two with the bases-loaded from Petit and Rene Rivera. The other came run came across when Brandon Allen beat out a potential double play ball with a runner at third. Miles Mikolas closed out the bottom of the tenth for his seventh save of the year.
Brach earned the win in his 2013 debut for Tucson, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. Michael Mariot was charged with the loss after surrendering three earned runs, two walks and no hits. Clayton Richard, who was making his second rehab start for Tucson, went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four.
