Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies smacked four home runs to power an offensive surge in a 10-3 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 4,738 at Chukchansi Park Monday night.

The Grizzlies (26-19) won their fifth-consecutive game and also claimed victory for the ninth time in their last 10 contests.

The RedHawks (25-18) came into Monday's action having allowed just 28 homers through their first 42 games, the lowest total in the Pacific Coast League. They had also not allowed more than two home runs in any game.

Roger Kieschnick hit the first home run of the night in the bottom of the third inning-a two-run shot off the batter's eye in center field to make it 2-0.

Tony Abreu stepped up next and knocked an 0-2 pitch from Asher Wojciechowksi out of the park, marking the third time this season the Grizzlies have hit back-to-back homers.

It was a surprising turn of events for Wojciechowski, who had allowed just one home run over his previous 134.2 innings pitched.

Fresno stayed in the park in the fourth, but plated two more runs. Chris Dominguez and Carter Jurica hit back-to-back triples, and Kensuke Tanaka followed with a sac fly to make it 6-0.

Jake Elmore got the RedHawks on the board in the top of the fifth with a sac fly, but Johnny Monell responded in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer to make it 8-1.

In the sixth, Fernando Martinez connected on his first home run of the season for Oklahoma City, pulling the RedHawks within six.

Gary Brown hit the Grizzlies' final home run of the night with a solo shot to left-center field to get Fresno into double digits. The Grizzlies finished with 13 hits, seven of which went for extra bases.

Martinez rounded out the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth. He finished 3-for-4 and now has seven hits over his last three games.

Wojciechowski (1-1) suffered his first loss in a RedHawks uniform. He allowed eight runs, matching his total for the season prior to Monday. The right-hander pitched five innings, gave up 10 hits, and struck out four without a walk.

Making a spot start, Mitch Lively pitched very effectively for the Grizzlies. Lively (2-1) allowed one run and five hits over five innings. He did not record a strike out and issued only one walk.

The RedHawks tied a season-low at the plate with just two strikeouts.

The RedHawks fell to 2-3 on their current road trip and will be back in action Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. central time. Live coverage begins at 12:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
