Grizzlies' Winning Streak Halted in 15-2 Loss

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies' season-high five-game winning streak ended in a convincing way on Tuesday as they lost 15-2 to the Oklahoma City RedHawks on Tuesday at Chukchansi Park.

The RedHawks wasted little time building a lead when they scored five runs off Grizzlies starting pitcher Chris Heston in the first inning. After walking Andrew Simunic with one out, Heston surrendered three consecutive doubles that gave the RedHawks a 3-0 lead. Marc Krauss followed the third of the three straight doubles with a walk while Che-Hsuan Lin loaded the bases on a fielding error by shortstop Juan Perez. Austin Wates capped the inning with a two-run single that put Oklahoma City ahead 5-0.

After the big first inning, Heston settled in, though. He allowed three hits and no runs from the second inning on before being removed in the sixth inning for Jake Dunning. Heston suffered the loss to end his personal three-game winning streak.

The RedHawks struck for 10 runs in the eighth inning to put the game away. Two home runs, a two-run shot by Marc Krauss and a grand slam by Brett Wallace, highlighted the big frame that saw 13 Oklahoma City batters step to the plate.

The 10 runs allowed by the Grizzlies were the most in an inning since July 4, 2012 against Sacramento.

Grizzlies reliever Dan Runzler was charged with four runs (three earned) after he could not record an out in the eighth. Steve Edlefsen spelled Runzler, but the right-hander allowed six runs over the one inning pitched.

The Grizzlies eliminated the shutout by scoring two runs in the ninth inning. Back-to-back doubles by Chris Dominguez and Hector Sanchez made it 15-1 while Sanchez later scored on an error by first baseman Brandon Laird.

Sanchez, in his first start since May 12, led the Grizzlies with three hits. Cole Gillespie reached base safely twice for Fresno with a single and walk.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer tallied his third win of the season after holding the Grizzlies scoreless over seven innings. The RedHawks left-hander allowed just three hits while striking out nine.

Dunning and Ramon Ramirez were the only Grizzlies pitchers to not allow a run. Dunning threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.63.

Game three of the four-game series will take place on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. Right-hander Shane Loux of Fresno will oppose fellow righty Ross Seaton of Oklahoma City.
