Idaho Steelheads News Release

West Valley, UT - Jack Campbell won his goaltending duel with Utah's Ryan Faragher Saturday night, stopping 40 shots in regulation and overtime and then denying all three Grizzlies shootout attempts to backstop the Steelheads (27-19-5) to a 1-0 win over the Utah Grizzlies (27-19-3) at Maverik Center.

Jefferson Dahl was the only player to find the back of the net all night long, beating Faragher with a wrist shot to the blocker side in the first round of the shootout. Campbell denied Ryan Hayes and Charles Sarault before forcing Mike Ratchuk to fire a shot over the net to seal Idaho's fourth straight win and eighth win in ten meetings with the Grizzlies this season.

The victory was Campbell's fourth shutout in 17 starts with Idaho this season, and his third by a 1-0 score. It was also Campbell's second shutout at Maverik Center this season, having downed Utah 1-0 on January 8th.

Campbell and Faragher went save for save the entire night, with the Utah goaltender stopping 41 shots in regulation and overtime. Campbell made a stellar save late in the second period when Ryan Hayes threw a pass to the left post and right onto the tape of Josh Macdonald. Macdonald steered it towards an empty net, but Campbell sprawled across with his right pad to kick the puck away and get a whistle to preserve the scoreless tie.

Campbell stopped all 15 shots he faced in the third period. Faragher responded by stopping nine Steelheads opportunities in overtime with the Steelheads swarming for the win in the 3-on-3 session.

Andre Morrissette was stopped on a breakaway chance by Faragher, finding his own rebound and sliding the puck back to the slot for another mini-breakaway chance for Carson McMillan that was denied. McMillan almost ended the game again in the final minute of OT, deflecting a Joe Basaraba shot just wide of the Utah net.

The Steelheads are now 3-1 this season in the shootout and 5-5 in games that go beyond regulation. With the win, the Steelheads are two points clear of the Grizzlies atop the West Division, with the Grizzlies holding two games in hand.

The Steelheads are 10-2-0 in their last 12 games and have won six of their last seven on the road.

The Steelheads host the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday night with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10pm MT. The game is available on 1350AM KTIK, CableOne, and ECHLTV.
