Toledo Declaws Beast in a 6-1 Win

(Toledo, OH) A three goal first period followed by another three goal third period led to a 6-1 win over Brampton in front of a record tying crowd Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 28-13-2-3 and 15-5-0-1 at home.

The Walleye snapped a three game winless skid in style with a Dane Walters (4th) goal just 52 seconds into the first period. Austin Wuthrich made it 2-0 Walleye when he wristed home his 11th goal of the season at 10:53. Toledo didn't slow down at the end of the period as Dominic Zombo (6th) beat Brampton goaltender Drew Fielding with a glove side wrist shot with only 13 seconds left in the first frame.

Brampton picked up the lone goal of the second period when a shot by Mike Vernace went off of the stick of Toledo defenseman Ralphs Freibergs and past Jake Paterson at 2:31. Paterson held the Beast scoreless from that point including some outstanding saves in the third period.

Toledo pulled away with two goals in sixteen seconds starting at 13:27 with the first professional goal from Dajon Mingo. A.J. Jenks beat Beast goaltender Jordan Ruby, who came on to start the second period, with a wrist shot for his 15th of the year to push the Walleye lead to 5-1. Josh Shalla went top shelf for his 9th of the year at the 17:00 to finish the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced and saw his record improve to 8-8-1-1 on the season. Toledo is 6-1-1 vs. Brampton this year. The six goals scored by the Walleye tied a season high.

Record Tied: The standing room only crowd of 8,000 was the 12th sellout of the season for the Walleye which equals the single season record reached in 2009-10 and also during the 2014-15 season.
