Mallards Notes

Last Night

The host Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Mallards as Phil Brewer scored what proved to be the game winning goal and Kevin Carr made 21 saves. Matt Carey and Kevin Henderson had a goal and an assist apiece for the Mallards.

Rematch

The Mallards tonight bid to earn a split of their two game series in Tulsa.

Back-to-Back

The Mallards have lost back-to-back games. They fell last night after going down 3-1 last Saturday in Fort Wayne.

Race

The Mallards are among a group of teams battling for Western Conference playoff berths. The Mallards are in tenth place in the conference, three points behind the Colorado Eagles and Indy Fuel, who are currently tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the west.

On the Road

The Mallards are in the midst of a four-game road trip. They have dropped the first two games of that trip. The Mallards are also now winless (0-5-2) in their last seven away games. They last won on the road when they defeated the IceMen 2-1 in Evansville on January 16.

Between the Pipes

Brody Hoffman, who made 28 saves while suffering the loss in goal last night, has started three straight games and has appeared in nine of the Mallards' last 11 games.

Top Trio

Linemates Carey, Henderson and Brady Brassart (two assists) notched two points apiece last night. That trio has provided each of the Mallards' last four goals over three games: Carey scored the clinching empty netter in the final seconds of last Friday's 4-2 win over Rapid City and Brassart scored the only Quad City goal last Saturday in Fort Wayne before the line scored twice last night. In addition, a member of that line has scored in each of the Mallards' last seven games. Carey has ten points (four goals and six assists) over those seven contests and has moved into a tie with Matt Neal for the team lead in goals (12) while Brassart has matched a team season best by recording points in seven straight games (2-6-8) and Henderson is in the midst of a six-game point-scoring streak (2-5-7).

Special Teams

The Mallards went of 0-for-2 on the power play last night while the Oilers went 0-for-1. The Mallards have gone 9-for-9 on the penalty kill over their last four games and have now killed off 15 of their opponents' last 16 power plays and 29 of their foes' last 31 man advantages. They are tied for fourth in the ECHL in penalty killing (86.9 percent). The Mallards rank eighteenth on the power play (16.2 percent).

Head to Head

The Mallards have gone 1-2-0 against the Oilers this season. The Mallards are 13-13-0 against the Oilers all-time and have gone 5-5-0 in Tulsa. The two clubs will wrap up their five-game season series April 1 at the iWireless Center.
