February 13, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
ESTERO, FL - C.J. Motte and the Elmira Jackals were 96 seconds away from their second consecutive shutout when Justin Agosta scored the tying goal sending the game to extra time and an eventual shootout win for the Everblades. Allan McPherson scored for the fourth consecutive game and Chris Langkow extended his point streak but the Jackals fell 2-1.
The Jackals weathered an early storm in the opening frame as the Everblades peppered C.J. Motte with shots only to be thwarted by the rookie netminder. Florida led the shots 14-1 when the Jackals found a way to strike first. Chris Langkow fed a pass to Allan McPherson who cut across the top of the circles from right to left releasing a wrist shot past Anthony Peters at 16:40 of the first period. McPherson's 16th goal of the season ties him for the team lead and extends his goal streak to four games and his point streak to five games. Chris Langkow's assist extended his assist and point streak to three games. Florida out-shot Elmira 17-5, but C.J. Motte turned aside all 17 shots faced.
Elmira carried its one-goal lead throughout the second period tempering Florida's offensive attack and swaying momentum to its side. C.J. Motte turned aside 12 more shot attempts in the second period bringing his save total to 29 through the first 40 minutes.
As both goaltenders shut the door in the third period, the Jackals maintained their 1-0 lead into the late stages of the final frame. C.J. Motte, who shut out the Adirondack Thunder on Tuesday, was 96 seconds away from his second consecutive shutout when Justin Agosta fired a shot from the top of the right circle past Motte tying the game. Agosta's ninth goal of the season was assisted by Brant Harris and Matt Willows.
The contest entered an extra frame following the late tying goal and despite five shots for each team during the three-on-three overtime frame the game went to a shootout. Colin Jacobs went first but was stopped by Peters. Matt Marquardt followed and out-waited Motte to put Florida up 1-0. Cason Hohmann and Kevin Lynch were stopped in the second round, setting up Kevin Clare in round three with a chance to keep the shootout going but Peters was able to shut the door and seal the victory for the Everblades.
C.J. Motte turned aside 46 of 47 shots faced and one of two shootout attempts but suffered a tough luck shootout loss. Anthony Peters stopped 27 of 28 shots faced and all three shootout attempts to earn the win.
