NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals fell to the Reading Royals Friday night at Scope Arena, 4-2.

The Admirals drew blood first at 15:32 in the opening frame. Gabriel Verpaelst threw a pass to Alexis Loiseau, who shoved the puck from the trapezoid towards Reading's net where it deflected off a skate to give Norfolk the 1-0 lead through the end of the first period.

As Reading netminder Connor Knapp went down for a diving block in the second period, the Admirals logged their second goal of the night. Steven Whitney pushed a pass from the right circle to Dean Ouellet at the doorstep. Ouellet sent his wrister from the low slot behind Knapp, giving Norfolk a two-goal advantage at 7:29.

At 10:26, the Royals responded with their first tally of the night. Nikita Kashirsky made an attempt from the right boards that was swatted away by Norfolk goalie Ty Rimmer. Jesper Peterson was there to clean up when his slap shot from the left ring went top shelf, cutting the Norfolk lead 2-1.

Reading tied things up at 17:28 in the middle frame when they capitalized on their man-advantage. Robbie Czarnik sent a pass over the blue line to Justin Crandall, who's one-timer from the top of the left circle zipped past Rimmer, knotting the score 2-2 in the second period.

Just seconds after the Admirals killed their second penalty of the night, the Royals took the lead when Brandon Alderson knocked one in stick side at 7:05 in the third.

Kashirsky put the Royals up 4-2 in the final frame after Kevin Young set him up at the front door. His point blank shot lifted past Rimmer's glove side at 11:23 and secured the victory for Reading.

Rimmer blocked 24 of 28 Reading attempts on net, and Knapp intercepted 27 of Norfolk's 29 total shots. The Admirals went scoreless on their sole man advantage, and the Royals were 1-for-2.

The Admirals hit the road to face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
