Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (March 29th) - David Shantz stopped all 37 shots and Landon Oslanski scored the only goal of the contest to help Wichita (17-38-6-6) get past Quad City (33-27-4-2) by the final of 1-0 at INTRUST Bank Arena on Tuesday night.
Shantz earns the first shutout of the season by a Thunder netminder while Oslanski nets his 11th of the year. Wichita takes the series-finale and finishes 3-3-0-1 against the Mallards this season.
The story of the night was the Wichita penalty killing unit. Quad City had two five-on-three situations in the third. They came up empty and were unsuccessful on all eight chances throughout the game.
The only goal of the night came at 13:35 of the first when Oslanski jumped on a loose puck in the crease after Miles Koules and Kale Kerbashian worked it to the front of the net. He was able to put home the rebound past Brody Hoffman for the 1-0 lead.
Wichita opened the final period with a two-man advantage, but were unable to get anything set up. Both goaltenders were outstanding down the stretch, including a breakaway save by Shantz on Sam Warning with just under two minutes to go. The Thunder held on and claimed a 1-0 decision.
The Thunder win their first game of the season when scoring one goal. Oslanski nets his eighth tally of the year in a Thunder uniform. Shantz stopped all 37 shots for his eighth career ECHL shutout and first in Wichita. Hoffman was just as good, stopping 29 of 30 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Quad City went 0-for-8 on the man advantage.
Wichita travels to the Black Hills this weekend for a pair of games against Rapid City, starting Friday night at 8:05 p.m. CST.
Individual tickets for all games are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at the INTRUST Arena Box office, by calling 855-755-SEAT or go online at www.selectaseat.com.
