Colorado Eagles News Release
(Tulsa, OK) - The Colorado Eagles scored four goals in the second period, while goaltender Clarke Saunders added 30 saves in a 6-2 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday. Forward Trent Daavettila chipped in a pair of goals in the win, while fellow forward Curt Gogol registered a goal and two assists. The win, coupled with Cincinnati's loss to Fort Wayne now pull the Eagles to within one point of sixth place in the Western Conference.
Colorado grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 11:14 mark of the first period when Daavettila buried a rebound in the slot off a shot from Gogol. The goal was Daavettila's 24th of the season and now runs his goal-scoring streak to three consecutive games.
With the Eagles leading 1-0 after 20 minutes, Colorado would blow the game open with four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period. The scoring started when Gogol received a beautiful backdoor pass from forward Darryl Bootland, deflecting it into the net and making it 2-0 Eagles just 54 seconds into the middle frame.
Colorado grew their lead to 3-0 when defenseman Channing Boe one-timed a pass at the blue line for his first goal as an Eagles at the 6:03 mark of the second period. Just 30 seconds later, Daavettila took a feed from Gogol in the low-slot and hammered it past Tulsa goaltender Kevin Carr to make it 4-0 Eagles.
The outpouring of offense wasn't over, as forward Everett Sheen took a cross-slot pass from line mate Jesse Mychan and stuffed it into the back of the net to give Colorado the 5-0 advantage with just 9:45 gone in the second period of action. The Eagles would take their commanding 5-0 lead into the second intermission.
As the puck dropped on the third period of play, the Eagles would pick up where they left off, as defenseman Jake Marto would uncork a wrister from the blueline that would be deflected into the net by forward Kyle Kraemer to make it 6-0 Colorado, only 1:54 into the final period of regulation.
The Oilers would find a pair of goals late in the contest, as defenseman Nathan Lutz knocked in a loose puck on the side of the net at the 16:54 mark, while fellow defenseman Conner Kucera lit the lamp with a slapshot from the blue line to make it 6-2 Eagles with 53 seconds left. That is as close as Tulsa would come, as the Eagles held on for the 6-2 victory.
Colorado concludes their four-game roadtrip with a match-up against the Oilers at the BOK Center in Tulsa on Wednesday, March 30th at 6:05pm MST.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
