DEBLOIS RETURNS TO STINGRAYS

The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that forward Derek DeBlois has been returned to the club from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). DeBlois, 25, has had four stints with the Monsters this season, appearing in 35 games and registering five points (three goals, two assists). With the Stingrays, DeBlois has skated in 17 games this season, notching 12 points (five goals, seven assists). DeBlois has joined the team and is eligible to play tonight.

BYE BYE, ATLANTA

The South Carolina Stingrays will close out the home portion of the season series with Atlanta tonight night before battling a final time against the Gladiators April 6 on the road. So far this season, the Stingrays are 7-3-1-0 against the Gladiators.

VANECEK ON A ROLL

Stingrays goaltender Vitek Vanecek is enjoying a standout rookie season. He is second in the league with a 2.00 goals-against average. He has posted a 16-7-4-1 record for South Carolina and has not lost in regulation since January 23, going 9-0-2-0 in that stretch. The second round selection of the Washington Capitals in the 2014 NHL Draft boasts a .919 save-percentage and recorded his third professional shutout in a 2-0 win at Atlanta last Saturday.

PLAYOFF BOUND

With the 2-0 win against Atlanta on the road last Saturday night, the Stingrays officially clinched a playoff spot in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs. This is the 22nd time in the club's 23 seasons in the Lowcountry that the Stingrays are playoff bound.

CATCHING SOME WALLEYE

The Stingrays (87 points) enter tonight's game just four points back of Eastern Conference leading Toledo (91 points). The Stingrays have played one fewer game than the Walleye, and a victory tonight would pull them just two points back of First Place in the Eastern Conference. The Walleye play three games this weekend, hosting Manchester Friday, visiting Cincinnati on Saturday and hosting Wheeling on Sunday. The Stingrays are at home for a pair of games Friday and Saturday versus Orlando.
