
Blomstrand Named ECHL Player of the Week

KALAMAZOO, MI- Kalamazoo Wings forward Ludwig Blomstrand has been named as the ECHL's Sher-Wood Hockey Player of the Week for March 21-27, the league announced Tuesday.
Blomstrand scored five goals and added two assists for seven points last week, helping the K-Wings to a 4-0-0 record during the week.
The 23-year-old had the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at Adirondack on Tuesday, picked up an assist in a 3-2 victory at Reading on?Wednesday, tallied a pair of goals in a 6-4 win over Wheeling on?Friday and had three points (two goals, one assist) in a 5-1 victory against the Nailers on Saturday.
A?native of Uppsala,?Sweden, Blomstrand is tied for seventh in the ECHL?with a career-high 58 points (27 goals, 31 assists) in 65 games this season, and his six game-winning goals are tied for third in the league.
Selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2011 NHL?Entry Draft, Blomstrand has 130 points (74 goals, 56 assists) in 164 career ECHL?games with Kalamazoo and he has also seen action in 15 career American?Hockey League games with Chicago and Utica.
On behalf of Ludwig Blomstrand, a case of pucks will be donated to a Kalamazoo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood?Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
Blomstrand leads the Kalamazoo Wings in three critical tilts against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as the regular season winds down. The Wings currently sit three points outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture with five games remaining in the regular season.
