Lexington Legends News Release

Seven members of the Lexington Legends have been chosen to represent the Southern Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star game in Charleston, South Carolina June 19. The Legends total of seven All-Stars leads the Southern Division. Asheville and Charleston each had five selections.

Legends' starting pitchers Mike Foltynewicz and Nick Tropeano, relievers Jason Chowning and Carlos Quevedo, second baseman Delino DeShields Jr., third baseman Matt Duffy, and first baseman Zach Johnson were chosen for the Southern Division team. Johnson will serve as the designated hitter. Each division will have 26 players on its roster. The voting was done by managers and coaching staffs, local media and front office executives.

Foltynewicz has a record of 7-1 and an earned run average of 2.14 in 71 and one-third innings pitched. Through Sunday's games, he was tied for the league lead in wins, was third in ERA and led the league in innings pitched.

Tropeano, 4-3 with a 2.94 ERA, is second in the league in strikeouts with 76. He has three outings of six innings or more in which he has not allowed a run, and has twice been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week (April 16-22 and April 30-May 6).

Chowning, 1-2, 0.75, is tied for the league lead in saves with 10. Opponents had a .128 batting average against him, the second lowest in the league among relief pitchers. His strikeout ratio of 13.17 per nine innings pitched was fourth best in the league among relievers. The Louisville native was promoted to advanced-A Lancaster Monday, and will not participate in the SAL All-Star game.

Quevedo, 4-1, 2.91, won eight games as a starter for the Legends in 2011. Converted to relief this year, he has struck out 47 batters and walked only five in 43 and one-third innings pitched. He has the lowest baserunners-allowed-per-nine-innings ratio in the league at 5.94 and the second lowest walks-per-nine-innings ratio at 0.74.

All four All-Star pitchers are right-handers.

Duffy, who played in college at Tennessee, was batting .313 through Sunday, tied for 12th in the league. He is tied for sixth in the league with 68 hits. He batted .343 in the month of May.

Johnson, after leading the league in runs batted in for much of the season, is now second with 55, one behind Jason Martinson of Hagerstown.

DeShields leads the league with 36 stolen bases. He has been caught only four times.

"To have seven players selected to this year's All-Star team is quite an accomplishment," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "It's somewhat rare to see that many guys from one squad selected, but it speaks to the overall talent we have in Lexington this season and all the hard work the players and our coaching staff have put in. We're looking forward to a great game in Charleston and we know the Lexington Legends will be well represented."
