BlueClaws Snap 8-Game Skid, Win 5-4

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The BlueClaws jumped out to a 5-1 lead through two innings and were able to hang -on for a 5-4 victory to snap an eight-game losing streak.

After dropping all seven games of their seven-game road trip the BlueClaws start their homestand with a victory in front of 5,518 fans at FirstEnergy Park. Lakewood is now 20-37 on the season, but are 13-14 at home.

Starting pitcher Ethan Stewart secured his first victory of the season with Luis Paulino earning his second save. Stewart went six innings allowing two runs- both earned- on three hits and four walks to move his record to 1-6 in 2012. It was the first game in Stewarts 11 starts in which the BlueClaws have won.

Offensively the BlueClaws jumped out to an early lead thanks to five walks in the 1st inning from Lexington starter Luis Cruz, and a two-run single by Harold Martinez in the 2nd inning.

The BlueClaws will battle the Legends in Game 2 of their three-game series, Wednesday evening at FirstEnergy Park. Newly-named South Atlantic League All-Star Colin Kleven (3-4, 3.59) will make his first start for the BlueClaws against Jonas Dufek (1-1, 5.84) for Lexington.
