
Shorebirds Level Series with 3-2 Win

Charleston, WV - The Delmarva Shorebirds (23-35) surrendered just six hits and held on for a 3-2 win over the West Virginia Power at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday.
The Shorebirds scored the first run in the fourth inning. Nicky Delmonico ripped a line drive into center field that Greg Polanco couldn't handle. With Delmonico at second and two outs, Connor Narron doubled to the warning track in right field to give the 'Birds a 1-0 lead.
The Power erased the deficit in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Willy Gracia hit a solo home run to right-center field.
The Shorebirds regained the lead in the sixth inning. Brenden Webb reached on a hit by pitch. Narron followed with a single to advance Webb to second. Then, relief pitcher Zac Fuesser was called for a balk to advance both runners. Then, Wynston Sawyer hit a grounder towards short that scored Webb.
West Virginia again responded immediately in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Greg Polanco connected on his ninth home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
In the eighth inning, the Shorebirds jumped back in front. After a double steal that put Esposito at third and Narron at second, Sawyer lined a single into right-center field to give the Shorebirds a 3-2 lead.
Shorebirds starter Zach Davies went a career long 6.2 innings. He surrendered just three hits while striking out six and walking one.
Jake Cowan entered in the seventh inning and picked up the win over the final 2.1 innings.
In the ninth inning, the Power loaded the bases with one out. Cowan proceeded to strikeout Jose Osuna and fly out Francisco Diaz to shallow left field to end the game.
Narron recorded three of the Shorebirds seven total hits and reached base in all four times to the plate.
The Shorebirds and Power play the series finale on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:05pm. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
