Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power lost 3-2 to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday at Appalachian Power Park. The Shorebirds scored the game's final run in the eighth and stopped a bottom of the ninth rally to preserve the win.
Zack Von Rosenberg started for the Power in his first appearance of 2012. The right-hander pitched well, allowing one unearned run on two hits over four innings.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Willy Garcia hit a solo home run off Shorebirds starter Zach Davies to tie the game. It was Garcia's seventh home run of the season and first since May 7, a drought spanning 23 games.
Delmarva regained a one run lead in the top of the sixth inning on a ground out, but West Virginia again responded with a home run to tie the game. In thebottom of the sixth, Gregory Polanco hit a full count pitch from Davies over the right-center wall for a 2-2 score.
The Shorebirds tallied the game's final run in the eighth on a single by Wynston Sawyer off Zac Fuesser that drove in Jason Esposito for a 3-2 lead. In the ninth, the Power loaded the bases with one out, but Delmarva reliever Jake Cowen struck out Jose Osuna and induced a fly out from Francisco Diaz to end the game.
Fuesser (0-3) pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, three walks, and two hits batters, and took the loss. Cowan (1-0) earned the win with two and a third innings of scoreless relief.
West Virginia and Delmarva play the final game of this three game series on Wednesday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Nick Kingham will start for the Power at 7:05 pm and is slated to be matched up against the Shorebirds' Eduardo Rodriguez.
