EL1 Harrisburg Senators

Senators rally but fall 3-2 to Akron

April 28, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

On a cold, miserable night in Akron, the Senators rallied late but fell to Akron 3-2. The loss is the tenth straight for the Senators who dropped to 2-14 with the loss while Akron improved to 14-4 with the win.

Justin Jones started and pitched six quality innings but took the loss and fell to 1-2. Akron scored all three of their runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Jones along with relievers Jack Spradlin and Matt Avery retired the final 12 batters to come to the plate for the Aeros.

Hector Rondon started and picked up the win to go to 4-0 on the season. He took a shutout into the seventh inning when Matt Whitney hit a solo home run leading off the inning to trim the score to 3-1.

The Sens had a great opportunity in the eighth with Michael Daniel leading off with a single and then advancing to third on a single by Leonard Davis. Davis moved to second on the play when the ball was bobbled in right field.

Bill Rhinehart then hit a ball in the air to center field that was dropped, scoring Daniel and moving Davis to third with Rhinehart taking second. With the score now 3-2, the Sens had a great opportunity but a strikeout, intentional walk and then two more strikeouts killed the rally and that was that. The Sens went in order in the ninth to drop the ballgame.

Game two of the three game series is Wednesday night at 7:05pm in Akron with LH Ross Detwiler taking the mound for the Senators.
