Altoona Curve Statement Regarding Rumored Troy Polamalu Appearance
April 28, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
Recently, the Altoona Curve became aware of unfortunate, irresponsible and erroneous announcements on area radio stations made by representatives of the Blue Mountain Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation regarding their upcoming Arthritis Walk, which will be held at Blair County Ballpark on May 2.
The untruthful announcements were in regard to Pittsburgh Steelers' safety Troy Polamalu attending the event at Blair County Ballpark. The Altoona Curve has confirmed through the Steelers organization that no such arrangements were ever made with Mr. Polamalu by the Blue Mountain Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
"We're extremely disappointed that these erroneous claims were made by the charity's representatives in a public forum that may have deceived the public," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Blair County Ballpark is a beautiful and appropriate venue in which area charities use to hold certain events, including the Blue Mountain Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. The Altoona Curve made Blair County Ballpark available to the Blue Mountain Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and that is where the affiliation with the Altoona Curve ends. In no way are the Altoona Curve involved with the operation of Saturday's event. It is also imperative to emphasize that in no way are the Altoona Curve responsible for the erroneous comments made by members of the charity regarding an appearance by Troy Polamalu."
Even in the aftermath of discovering these falsehoods, the Arthritis Walk scheduled for May 2 will take place.
"After giving the situation ample consideration, the Altoona Curve decided that even in light of the unfortunate actions of certain members of the foundation, it wouldn't be fair for good-hearted, honest people who are looking forward to participating in the event be to be deprived based on the actions of those individuals," Egan added.
