Harrisburg Senators News Release

Despite having a flurry of chances, the Harrisburg Senators could not come through with a big hit in a 4-2 loss to the Akron RubberDucks Thursday night before a crowd of 5,547 at Metro Bank Park. The Senators (54-58) have dropped four of their last five series.

The Senators found themselves in an early hole Thursday as Akron scored three runs on four hits in the first inning off Harrisburg starter, Matt Purke. However, Purke was able to settle in and post three consecutive scoreless innings to finish his outing. The left-hander threw 84 pitches in four innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.

Meanwhile, the Senators chipped away by scoring a run in the first and the third. Cutter Dykstra doubled to deep centerfield to score Chris Bostick in the first, and Bostick hit a solo homer in the third to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Senators left five runners on base the rest of the way and were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Wander Suero relieved Matt Purke and fired three scoreless innings, stranding four runners along the way. Akron extended its lead off Abel De Los Santos in the eighth with an RBI hit by Joe Sever. De Los Santos allowed a run on four hits in his two innings of work.

Shawn Pleffner joined Bostick as the two Senators with multi-hit games. Drew Vettleson earned his 10th outfield assist of the season as he began a relay home to cut down a potential fifth Akron run in the ninth inning.

Harrisburg now travels to Erie to begin a six-game road trip. The first of three with Erie will start Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
