Giants update - 6 to 1 victory over the Braves last night. Former Flying Squirrel from 2015, Kelby Tomlinson, drove in three runs and recorded two hits in just his second game in the big leagues. 8:05 pm EST first pitch tonight @ the Chicago Cubs.

SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Squirrels lifted 7,109 fans to their feet at The Diamond with a 3-2 walk-off victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) in game two of this three game series. Rando Moreno provided the first game clinching hit for the Squirrels since May 28 (3-2 win-10 innings vs HAR). It is just the fourth walk-off win in total for the RVA this season. Hunter Cole blasted his third Double-A home run to aid the offense. In game one, Kelvin Marte executed a superb performance on the hill as the Squirrels blanked New Hampshire, 3-0. Marte threw a season high 114 pitches in seven scoreless innings for Richmond. It is the first time this year the Squirrels have registered back-to-back shutout victories. This is the first and only trip for New Hampshire to The Diamond during the regular season. The Fisher Cats drove more than nine hours to reach this destination. It is the second furthest ballpark from Richmond in the Eastern League as the Portland Sea Dogs are over 10 hours away. The Flying Squirrels swept the Fisher Cats back in early June and in total outscored this Eastern Division foe 23-5. In game one, Richmond tallied 12 runs, which is tied for the most in a game this season for the team. They also compiled 18 hits and that is the most in a contest this year for the RVA. The Fisher Cats are third to last in the Eastern League with a 3.88 ERA.

BRING YOUR BROOMS: Today, the Squirrels have an opportunity to sweep the Fisher Cats for the third time in franchise history. Prior to the sweep earlier in the year (6/5-6/7), the other time it was accomplished was in 2012 (6/12-6/14). This year Richmond has documented five sweeps (2-Akron, 1-Altoona, 1-New Hampshire, 1-Harrisburg). The Squirrels still remain unbeaten against two Eastern League foes this season (Akron, New Hampshire). Richmond still collides with the RubberDucks once more in 2015. With today being the last meeting of the regular season against the Fisher Cats, the Squirrels have a chance to capture perfection. The last time the RVA won every game against one Eastern League squad during the regular season was Portland in 2013 (6 games).

HOME NORMALLY WON'T KEEP YOU LONG: The Richmond starting pitchers did not last six innings in any of the four games over the weekend against the Binghamton Mets. That changed on Tuesday, following the off day, as Kelvin Marte zoomed through seven shutout innings. That is just the fourth time at home all season a Richmond hurler has logged seven innings. Before Tuesday, the last time a seven inning performance occurred for the Squirrels at The Diamond was Kelvin Marte's complete game shutout in game one of a seven inning doubleheader on July 17. Richmond has not lost any of the four games in the RVA when their starter has gone seven innings. On the road, Squirrels' starters have lasted seven innings in an outing 13 times (9-4).

ONE COLLAPSE PROMPTED BLANK SCORECARDS: On July 30, the Richmond relievers allowed a collective 10 runs in an 11-3 defeat. Since the bullpen imploded for 10 runs that day, the relievers have completely directed traffic. The bullpen was really tested on July 31 after starter Joe Biagini departed earlier than expected. He lasted only 21 pitches (1.0 IP) due to back pain. The bullpen did not allow a run in eight innings during that day. The Squirrels' relief pitchers have not allowed a run in their last 21.1 innings of work (7/31-Current, since the 10 run epidemic). The longest scoreless streak documented by the bullpen this season is 25 innings (5/23-5/29).

A BULLPEN TREASURE: If you want a groundball out, just go find Squirrels relief pitcher Tyler Mizenko. On Saturday, the right-hander tossed two innings out of the bullpen and every out was from a groundball. The remarkable consistency does not stop there. In his last three outings (4.0 IP total), all of Mizenko's outs have been from the groundball. The last time Mizenko recorded a fly ball out was on July 25 against Erie in the bottom of the eighth inning. Recently, he has been a lock down reliever as a whole with just one earned run allowed in his last 11.1 IP.

UPCOMING HOMESTAND PROMOTIONS: (8/6) Thursday Night In Your Face Fireworks and Faith Night #2. (8/14) Free Shirt Fridays, Happy Hour & Ladies Night and Grateful Dead Tribute. (8/15) Superblast Saturday and 2nd Annual Guns & Hoses. (8/16) Tribute to the Toy Hall of Fame and Nutzy Bubbles Giveaway.

RICHMOND STARTING PITCHER: RHP Edwin Quirarte (0-2, 3.61)

Quirarte prepares for his sixth start and 20th appearance for the Squirrels this season. In Quirarte recently came off the disabled list (ankle) on July 27 and immediately appeared in a game on that same day as part of an emergency relief outing (2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R). He was then asked to start just three days later and recorded a season high eight strikeouts in just four innings (7/30). The right-hander has been pretty solid as he has only allowed more than one earned run in an outing just once in his five starts. He logged six innings in back-to-back outings (7/7, 7/12). These two six-innings performances are his longest outings with the Giants organization since 2008. Quirarte started this season in the Independent Atlantic League before San Francisco decided to acquire him again in May after the organization did not re-sign him after 2014. The 28-year-old has spent the last five seasons with the Flying Squirrels. Quirarte was selected in the fifth round by the Giants in 2008.

NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Casey Lawrence (10-10, 4.63)

Lawrence prepares for his 21st start of the season and first career appearance against the Squirrels. The 27-year-old was signed by the Blue Jays in 2010 as a non-drafted free agent from Albright College (Division III). He spent all of 2014 with the Fisher Cats and logged the third most innings during that season (151.1). His arm has been utilized once again this year as he leads his team with 122.1 innings so far. Lawrence has been knocked around in his last two starts on July 26 and July 31 (19 hits allowed). The highest this right-hander has reached in the professional ranks is the Triple-A level, but he has only made two starts, one in 2015 and one in 2013.
