Legendary Lawrence: Pitcher Gets Historic Win

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Casey Lawrence took sole control of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats record for most wins with his 20th victory in a New Hampshire uniform Thursday night, downing the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-0 at the Diamond in Richmond.
Lawrence (W, 11-10) notched his 11th win of the season, extending his team-leading total, and passed Deck McGuire (19 wins) to move solidly into first place atop the Fisher Cats' all-time leaderboard in the category. He's only the sixth Fisher Cat hurler ever to record double-digit wins in a single season.
New Hampshire (56-52) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, and avoided a season sweep at the hands of the Flying Squirrels. Richmond (57-53) failed to keep pace with the Trenton Thunder for the second playoff spot in the Eastern League's Western Division.
The Fisher Cats took the initial lead in the top of the fourth against Richmond starter Edwin Quirarte. Kevin Nolan drew a one-out walk and Ryan Schimpf hammered a double to left-center field, putting runners at second and third. K.C. Hobson sliced a single through the right side, scoring Nolan and Schimpf to make it a 2-0 lead for New Hampshire.
The game was halted in the eighth inning with a 1-0 count on leadoff batter Myles Schroder, due to torrential rains pouring down. When it resumed at 10:45, Lawrence was replaced by lefty Chad Girodo.
Lawrence was superb for New Hampshire, earning the historic win with seven shutout innings. He allowed only four hits and fanned four. Girodo fired two shutout frames, surrendering one hit and whiffing two.
The Fisher Cats open up a three-game series Friday night against the Bowie Baysox, with righty Mike Lee drawing the start for New Hampshire against Bowie right-hander Gene Escat. First pitch from Prince George's Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with Ben Gellman's pregame show starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
When the Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday, August 11, we're celebrating Shark Week at the field and we'll recognize kids who completed the Oral Health Challenge with Northeast Delta Dental. The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will also receive a free Fisher Cats t-shirt courtesy of Buyers Beware. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com, stopping by the box office at the ballpark, or by calling (603) 641-2005.
