
Fightins bring the brooms out in Trenton

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (61-50) finished off an improbable series as they defeated Trenton (58-53) 8-1 on Thursday night to earn their first sweep since 4/27-4/29. Reading scored a total of 26 runs and recorded a total of 40 hits in the series.
Joely Rodriguez retired the side in the bottom of the first inning. Reading took a 1-0 lead off Jaren Long and the Thunder in the top of the second inning. Destin Hood hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brock Stassi. Reading scored five runs off Long in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. JP Crawford hit a two-run single that was followed by RBI singles from Andrew Knapp and Destin Hood.
Crawford struck again in the top of the fourth inning as he hit a one-out double that scored Williams and gave Reading a 7-0 lead. Long left the game after 3 2/3 innings and Matt Tracy entered the game in relief for Trenton. Rodriguez (4-2) left the game after five shutout innings in which he gave up one hit. He faced 16 batters and retired 15 batters. He earned the win for Reading.
Hoby Milner allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to see Reading's lead get cut to 7-1. Crawford hit a RBI single in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Alex Smith to give the Fightin Phils an 8-1 lead. Andrew Knapp finished the 3 for 4 with one RBI and one walk as Crawford recorded three hits with his four RBI.
Tom Windle and Ethan Martin tossed scoreless innings in relief. Martin was activated off the injured list prior to the game. Williams, Cameron Perkins, Brock Stassi, Destin Hood and Brodie Greene all recorded hits.
The Fightin Phils will be back at FirstEnergy Stadium on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can view the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 7:05 pm.
