Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Bowie Baysox scored all four runs in the fourth inning, beating the Binghamton Mets, 4-3, at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night to avoid a sweep. Binghamton managed five hits and left the tying run in scoring position twice in the final four innings. Brock Peterson had all three hits against Bowie starter Chris Lee. The B-Mets remain in first place for the 15th straight day, holding on to a half game lead over the Reading Fightin Phils.
Lee walked two of the first three batters he faced before allowing an RBI single to Peterson into left field, giving Binghamton the early 1-0 advantage. Lee then settled in, retiring the next eight batters he faced and surrendering just one hit over the next four innings.
Rainy Lara scaled a tightrope throughout the first three innings, working around four hits, before falling off in the fourth. The Baysox used five hits to score all of their runs during the fourth stanza. Quincy Latimore singled to left to begin the inning and came around to score two batters later on a Rossmel Perez double to right field. Following another basehit, Drew Dosch sent a single into left field to give Bowie the 2-1 lead. After a strikeout and a walk to load the bases, Trey Mancini lined a single back up the middle to cap off the big inning.
Working with a 4-1 lead, Lee hit a wall in the sixth inning. The southpaw walked two of the first three batters he faced before surrendering a sharp single to Peterson to load up the bases. Lee gave way to reliever Ashur Tolliver, who induced an infield pop up from TJ Rivera. With two outs, and two strikes, Vince Belnome lined a single to center to drive in two runs, getting the B-Mets within one. Joe Benson then lined out to second to end the threat.
Baysox closer Andrew Triggs came on to get the final five outs of the ballgame. After retiring the first four batters he faced, Triggs allowed a two out double to Benson in the ninth. After hitting Jonathan Galvez with a pitch, putting the potential winning run on base, Triggs got Albert Cordero to bounce out to second base to end the game.
Lee (1-0) allowed three runs and three hits in 5-1/3 innings, earning the win in his first career Double-A start. Rainy Lara (5-4) took the loss, allowing a season-high nine hits for the second time in his last three starts. He surrendered four runs in four innings.
The B-Mets (61-49) welcome in the Trenton Thunder Friday for a three game series that begins at 7:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa gets the start for Binghamton. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
