Binghamton's Gavin Cecchini Named July Player of the Month

Portland, ME -- The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Binghamton Mets shortstop Gavin Cecchini has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. Cecchini batted .387 (48-for-124) with six doubles, three triples, two home runs, 18 RBIs, 21 runs scored, a .453 on-base percentage and a .532 slugging percentage in 29 games during the month. The 21-year old kicked off the month by reaching base in the first 17 games he played in and went on to reach in 26 out of the 29 games he played in during the month. Gavin also had 11 multiple hit games during the month, including collected a career-high five hits while driving in one run and scoring one run in an 11-3 win at Richmond on July 30th. The 6'2", 200 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.387), hits (48) and on-base percentage (.453) and tied for the lead in triples (3) during the month of July. He also finished ranked among the monthly leaders in runs scored (21-2nd), total bases (66-2nd), OPS (.985-2nd), RBIs (18-tied 4th), slugging percentage (.532-5th), walks (15-tied 5th) and extra-base hits (11-tied 8th). Gavin also appeared in the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game in Portland on July 15th as a member of the Eastern Division team and went 0-for-1 with a walk.

Cecchini, who is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, has continued his hot hitting into the month of August, already collecting multiple hits in a pair of games this month. He is hitting .312 with 22 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 56 runs scored and 49 RBIs in 97 games for the B-Mets this season and he currently ranks second in the league in batting average (.312), hits (122) and total bases (173).

Gavin, who is rated by MLB.com as the fifth best prospect in the Mets organization, was selected by the New York Mets in the first round with the 12th overall pick of the 2012 draft out of Barbe High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
