Senators Drop One-Run Decision in Extras

The Harrisburg Senators could not hold a one-run lead in the ninth inning and then fell in 10 innings, 3-2, to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Monday night at Metro Bank Park. Harrisburg drops to .500 (48-48) for the third time in July.

Austin Voth pitched seven innings for the third consecutive start, allowing just one run while scattering eight hits and striking out six. The Senators trailed 1-0 into the bottom of the seventh inning, when Shawn Pleffner singled with one out. Drew Vettleson then tripled Pleffner home to tie the game. Vettleson scored the go-ahead run two batters later on a wild pitch.

Gilberto Mendez took over in the eighth inning, and kept Harrisburg in front heading into the ninth. However, after retiring the first two batters in the ninth, Mendez allowed a double and an game-tying RBI single. The game went to extra innings after Harrisburg went 1-2-3 in the ninth. Then in the 10th, with Sam Runion pitching, New Hampshire's K.C. Hobson lined a solo home run over the right field fence to take a 3-2 lead.

The Senators had the tying run at second and the winning run at first with two outs in the 10th, but Chris Bostick struck out to end the game.

Vettleson finished 2-for-4 with his RBI triple and two outfield assists at home plate in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Pleffner and Jose Lozada each pitched in a pair of hits for Harrisburg.

The Senators and Fisher Cats will play game two of three tomorrow night beginning at 7:00 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
