Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for July 13-July 19

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 13th through July 19th:

Binghamton Mets outfielder Michael Conforto has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 13th-July 19th. The 22-year old hit .438 (7-for-16) with one double, one triple, two home runs, three RBIs, three runs scored, one walk and a 1.000 slugging percentage in four games last week. Conforto, who is a native of Woodlinville, Washington, had at least one hit in all four games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in a 3-2 loss against visiting Trenton on Saturday. The 6'1", 211 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in slugging percentage (1.000) and OPS (1.500) last week and tied for the lead in home runs (2), extra-base hits (4) and triples (1). He also ranked among the weekly league leaders in total bases (16-2nd), batting average (.438-tied 5th), on-base percentage (.500-tied 5th), hits (7-tied 8th) and runs scored (3-tied 10th). Conforto is hitting .325 with five home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 41 games for the B-Mets this season. Michael, who started in left field and went 2-for-2 with one run scored for the US Team at the MLB Futures Game on July 12th, was selected by the New York Mets with the 10th overall pick of the 2014 draft out of Oregon State University.

Tyler Glasnow, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Altoona Curve, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 13th-July 19th. The 6'8", 225 lb. hurler started one game for the Curve last week and posted a record of 1-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Glasnow, who is a native of Newhall, California, made his lone start of the week on Thursday night at Richmond and gave up just three hits over seven shutout innings to earn the win in Altoona's 5-0 victory over the Flying Squirrels. He struck out nine batters and did not issue a walk while tying his career high for innings pitched in an appearance. The 21-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (9) last week and tied for the league lead in ERA (0.00). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in WHIP (0.43-3rd), wins (1-tied 3rd), batting average against (.125-6th) and innings pitched (7.0-tied 9th). Glasnow has made 10 starts for the Curve this season and has a record of 4-2 with 60 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA over 51 innings of work. Tyler, who is currently rated by MLB.com as the best prospect in the Pittsburgh organization, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth round of the 2011 draft out of Hart High School in Santa Clarita, California.
