Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve were held to just two hits on Monday night in an 8-1 loss to the Erie SeaWolves at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Despite entering the game with the league's top offense, the Curve (50-45) were held to only seven base runners by the SeaWolvess (37-56) pitching staff.
Erie took an early lead with a two-run homer by Wade Gaynor off of Jason Creasy (Loss, 8-3) in the second inning.
Altoona cut the Erie lead in half in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Mel Rojas Jr. to score Josh Bell. SeaWolves starter Tommy Collier (Win, 3-0) allowed just one run over seven innings and beat the Curve for the third time in three starts.
The SeaWolves added to their lead with a three-run seventh inning. Erie brought eight men to the plate in the inning as Jason Krizan, Tony Thomas and Austin Green each drove in a run.
Erie added three more runs in the ninth against Altoona reliever Josh Smith.
Creasy (Loss, 8-3) pitched 6.1 innings while allowing seven hits, three runs and four walks.
Stetson Allie recorded his eleventh outfield assist of the season in the second inning when he threw out Alberto Gonzalez at third base, which ties him for the most in the Eastern League this year.
The Curve and Erie continue the four-game series Tuesday night with a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. with gates opening at 3:30.
The game will be followed by a rare weekday fireworks show. It is also a Two-for-Tuesday at the ballpark presented by Atlantic Broadband with 2-for-1 offers on tickets, hot dogs and small popcorns.
Top Pirates prospect Tyler Glasnow (4-2) takes the mound for the Curve in game one, opposed by Erie right-hander Austin Kubitza (5-8). Righty Matt Benedict (4-4, 5.02) goes in the second game for Altoona while right-hander Warwick Saupold (3-6, 4.52) takes the mound for Erie.
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or visit the box office at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
