LAST GAME: The B-Mets beat Trenton for the third straight day, 9-4, Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton pounded out 16 hits and scored in each of their last five at-bats. Gavin Cecchini led the way with four hits and four RBI, including his seventh home run of the season. LJ Mazzilli also had four hits, while Xorge Carrillo added his fifth home run. Rainy Lara earned the win in his first B-Met start since June 9th. Binghamton left 15 men on base in the win.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Seth Lugo is making his 16th start and third against New Britain. Lugo has not allowed a run in each of his last two starts, winning back-to-back starts for the first time since 2013. He most recently shutout Portland in five innings, after tossing six shutout frames against New Britain. Lugo allowed four runs in seven innings in his first appearance against the Rock Cats, earning a no-decision. It's his first career appearance at New Britain Stadium.
NEW BRITAIN STARTER: RHP Shane Carle is making his 18th start and third against Binghamton. He faced the B-Mets his last time out, allowing two runs in six innings for the win. It was the first time in three starts that Carle made it to the fourth inning. He pitched three perfect innings against the B-Mets in his first appearance, before rain cut his outing short. Carle's nine wins are tied for the second most in the league.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: The B-Mets are off to a 11-6 start in July, leading the league in team ERA (1.97) and team batting average (.283) for the month. Binghamton has had a sub-3 ERA once in their last 51 months.
STRONG LIKE A BULL(PEN): Sunday was the first time the B-Met bullpen allowed an earned run in 12 games and 31 innings. The bullpen has made 13 scoreless appearances over the last 16 games. B-Met relievers have a 0.78 ERA during that time (3 ER, 34.2 IP).
CONFORTO CRUSHING: Michael Conforto is 10-for-21 (.476) with two home runs and five extra base hits over his last five games. He has reached base in 7 consecutive games, getting on base 12 total times during that span. Conforto was named the EL Player of the Week today for his performance.
1-2 PUNCH: Binghamton's first two hitters in the lineup, Gavin Cecchini and LJ Mazzilli, have both reached base in 18 consecutive games. Cecchini has hit .387 with 12 RBI,18 runs scored, and a .437 OBP during the streak. Mazzilli has driven in all eight B-Met runs in the 18 games.
THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: Sunday was the first time Binghamton allowed more than three runs in 11 games, as Trenton scratched across their fourth run in the ninth inning. Binghamton is 37-13 when holding their opponent to less than four runs in a game this year.
FAMILIAR FACES: Two B-Mets make their returns to New Britain Stadium this week. Joe Benson hit .256 in his three years as a Rock Cat (2010-12), while Brock Peterson hit .274 (2007-08).
FIRST IMPRESSION: Joe Benson has reached base in each of his first seven games with the B-Mets, notching a basehit in six of them. Benson already has three multiple-hit games in a B-Met uniform.
POWER UP: Binghamton has hit 13 home runs in their last 14 games, after hitting just one in their previous seven. The B-Mets are tied for the league-lead with 63 home runs. Binghamton is 33-14 when homering in a game this season.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their series with New Britain Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa vs. RHP Matt Flemer.
