New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

HARRISBURG, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rode a two-out, ninth-inning rally to extra innings and capitalized once they got there, downing the Harrisburg Senators 3-2 in 10 frames in front of 2,867 fans Monday night.

New Hampshire (49-43) got clutch hitting in the top of the ninth to tie the game before K.C. Hobson crushed a 10th-inning solo homer to give them their final lead. Harrisburg (48-48) threw out two would-be Fisher Cats runs at home in the game and got the tying run to scoring position in the 10th, but ultimately fell to the visitors.

The Fisher Cats started the scoring in the top of the first against Senators starter Austin Voth (ND). With two outs, Dwight Smith, Jr. worked a walk, and Kevin Nolan pounded a double into the left-center field gap to plate Smith and make it 1-0 in favor of the Fisher Cats.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh inning. Shawn Pleffner laced a one-out single to left off Fisher Cats starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx (ND). The righty then surrendered an RBI triple to Drew Vettleson, tying the game at 1-1. Bibens-Dirkx was replaced by Wil Browning, who threw a wild pitch that allowed Vettleson to score and give Harrisburg a 2-1 edge.

New Hampshire evened things up in the top of the ninth against Harrisburg reliever Gilberto Mendez. With two outs, Jorge Flores legged out a double in the gap, putting himself in scoring position. Roman Fields sliced a chopper into right field, and Flores sped home ahead of Vettleson's wild throw to tie the game at 2-2. In the tenth inning, Hobson delivered on a 1-0 fastball, belting it out to right-center field for the go-ahead homer off reliever Sam Runion (L, 3-2), and putting New Hampshire ahead to stay.

Bibens-Dirkx took a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits while fanning four in 6.1 innings. Browning gave up one hit and struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing his inherited runner to score. Colt Hynes (W, 2-0) got the win with 2.1 shutout frames, surrendering two hits while whiffing two.

The Fisher Cats will try to build on Monday's win on Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park, with righty Casey Lawrence starting for New Hampshire against Harrisburg righty Dakota Bacus. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and coverage with Ben Gellman begins at 6:45 p.m. on 610 AM WGIR.
