Harrisburg Senators News Release
Jhonatan Solano homered, doubled, and drove in three runs as the Harrisburg Senators doubled up the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, winning the series finale between the two teams 6-3. The announced Mother's Day attendance was 3127.
Richmond (18-12) had a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, but two-run home runs from Solano and Brad Coon changed that in a hurry. Solano's was a solo shot, and his first of the year, while Coon's came after Sens pitcher Jeff Mandel had drawn a walk. The two-run blast was his first of the season, and put the Senators up 3-2.
The Flying Squirrels scored one in the top of the eighth to tie it, and wrest a potential win away from Mandel. Mandel had exited after seven and one-third innings, after allowing just three hits and two runs. It was the longest outing of the year from a Senators starting pitcher, but ended in a no-decision.
The Senators (12-18) came right back in the bottom of the eighth inning, however, scoring three runs to retake the lead. After Chris Marrero led off with a double and Leonard Davis struck out, Richmond walked Ofilio Castro intentionally to bring up Bill Rhinehart. Rhinehart hit a groundball to Michael Ambort at first, which Ambort promptly threw into left field to allow pinch-runner Michael Martinez to score from third. Castro advanced to third on the play, and Rhinehart took second. Solano followed that up with a bases-clearing double, to plate two more runs and put the Senators in front by the 6-3 final score.
Mike MacDougal (1-0) picked up the win for the Senators, despite blowing a save chance after he entered in the eighth inning. Reliever Andy Sisco (0-1) took the loss for Richmond, while Victor Garate of the Sens earned his third save.
After closing out their ten-game homestand with a win, the Senators take to the road for three games at Altoona, starting Monday at 6:30 PM. Aaron Thompson (1-3, 4.63) is scheduled to pitch for the Senators, against Jared Hughes (5-1, 4.40) of the Curve. Radio coverage on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com begins at 6:15 PM.
