New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League made two roster moves today, and each involved Right-Handed Relief Pitchers.

RHP Steven Hirschfeld, the 24-year-old reliever out of San Diego State University, has been placed on the Disabled List with what is believed to be a minor lower leg injury incurred during pre-game warm-ups last night. The Moab, UT resident has thus far made 3 bullpen appearances for the 2010 Rock Cats and owns a 4.91 ERA.

RHP Matthew Williams, a 23-year-old native of Camden, Australia, joins the Rock Cats today from Ft. Myers in the Single-A, Florida State League. Signed by Minnesota as a Non-Drafted Free Agent in 2004, the 6'1/175-pounder is now in his sixth season of professional ball. In 2010, Williams made 7 appearances for Ft. Myers and departs the Miracle with a W-L record of 2-0, an ERA of 2.30, and an impressive K/BB ratio 19/3.

Williams is expected to be in uniform for the Rock Cats tonight in New Britain.
