
Fisher Cats Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short in Binghamton

Binghamton, NY- Adam Loewen went 3-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, and Jonathan Diaz drove in two runs in the ninth inning with a single, but the Fisher Cats fell 5-3 in Binghamton on Sunday afternoon. Entering the top of the ninth down 5-1, David Cooper doubled, Shawn Bowman walked and Loewen singled off reliever Josh Stinson. Diaz then smacked a single to left field off reliever Jose De La Torre to make it 5-3. But De La Torre came back to earn the save getting Brian Jeroloman and Darin Mastroianni to ground out.
Binghamton (18-12) put together three hits after two were out to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Carlos Guzman singled and scored on a double by Jonathan Malo (2-for-3, 2 RBI). Hector Pellot (2-for-4, 2 RBI) then doubled in Malo to give the Mets a 2-0 lead against Fisher Cats starter Luis Perez. The Mets added an unearned run in the fourth. Marshall Hubbard (1-for-4, HR, RBI) reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Pellot to make it 3-0.
New Hampshire (19-11) got on the board in the sixth inning against Mets starter and winner Dylan Owen. Mastroianni tripled to lead off and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Calderone to bring the Fisher Cats to within 3-1. Mastroianni extended his hit streak to 15 games and his consecutive on-base streak to 34 games dating back to last season. Owen (2-1) worked the first six innings to earn the win, allowing three hits and one run. He walked one and struck out four.
The Mets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, which proved to be important. Hubbard hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot off Tim Collins and Malo added an RBI single. All five Binghamton runs in the game came with two outs.
Luis Perez (3-2) took the loss for the Fisher Cats, working six innings, allowing eight hits, three runs, two earned. He walked one and struck out four.
The road trip continues for the Fisher Cats on Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. New Hampshire right-hander Kyle Drabek (4-2, 3.18) opposes Phillies right-hander Drew Naylor (2-3, 4.55) in the 6:35pm game.
