Harrisburg Senators News Release
A late rally was not enough for the Harrisburg Senators on Tuesday night, as they fell one run short of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, losing 4-3 at Merchantsauto.com stadium in New Hampshire. The game was played in front of 5936.
The Senators (52-52) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to climb out of a 4-0 hole, and plated all three with no outs in the inning. Adam Fox led off the inning with a double off of Bubbie Buzachero, and Josh Johnson followed with a double of his own, advancing Fox to third. Danny Espinosa then recorded a third consecutive double, and scored both Fox and Johnson. Marvin Lowrance then tripled to center field, bringing home Espinosa and putting himself-as the tying run-just 90 feet away from scoring. But Ronald Uviedo came in to replace Buzachero, and retired Jesus Valdez, Chris Marrero, and Tim Pahuta on two strikeouts and a lineout to end the inning. The Senators had the tying run at third base, and ultimately stranded him.
New Hampshire (61-43) scored their four runs in the fourth and fifth innings, getting two in each frame. Darin Mastroianni drove in the first two runs with a single in the fourth, and Eric Thames hit a two-run home run-his twentieth of the season-to make it 4-0 in the fifth. All-Star starter Kyle Drabek (10-9) pitched six shutout innings to pick up the win for the Fisher Cats, while Uviedo earned a two-out save. Washington Nationals opening-day starter John Lannan got the start for the Senators, and took the loss to drop to 1-4. He gave up two earned runs in five innings of work, on seven hits and two walks.
Espinosa, Fox, and Johnson each had two hits in the ballgame for the Senators, who outhit New Hampshire 9-7. Lowrance, Pahuta, and Jhonatan Solano each added one hit. Four of the Senators' nine hits were extra-base hits, and they all came in the decisive eighth inning. Mastroianni led the way for the Fisher Cats with two hits in the victory.
New Hampshire won the three-game series with Tuesday's win, and will go for a series sweep on Wednesday at 12:05. Right-hander Brad Peacock makes his first AA start for the Senators in that game, against RHP Zach Stewart (8-2, 4.01) of the Fisher Cats.
