New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Ronald Uviedo held the tying run at third base for three outs in the eighth inning, and then tacked on a scoreless ninth Tuesday as the Fisher Cats scored a 4-3 victory over the Harrisburg Senators in front of 5,936 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Kyle Drabek (10-9), who worked six scoreless innings, allowed just three hits.
After the Senators (52-52), trailing 4-0, stormed back with three runs on four straight extra base hits in the top of the eighth, Uviedo was called in to shut the door, and he did so with two strike outs and a liner to short to leave Harrisburg's Marvin Lowrance stranded.
Uviedo also worked out of a one-out, bases loaded situation in the ninth to record his first career Double-A save.
Eric Thames' team-high 20th home run in the home-half of the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner. Travis Snider's single set up Thames' two-run blast on a 1-2 offering to give New Hampshire (61-43) the 4-0 lead.
The two starters, John Lannan and Drabek, dueled for three innings, holding the opposing lineups scoreless until the Fisher Cats pounced first with two runs in the fourth. New Hampshire, who left two men on base in both the first and third innings, came through with a two-out, bases loaded single by Darin Mastroianni (2 for 4) to make it 2-0.
All of the damage in the fourth came off Harrisburg southpaw Lannan with two outs. Lannan, who recorded the loss, was making his seventh start for Harrisburg after posting a 2-5 record in 14 starts for the Washington Nationals. Lannan gave up Mastroianni's two-run base knock, which scored David Cooper, who reached on a single, and Jonathan Diaz, who reached on a fielding error.
Lannan (1-4, 4.20) was lifted after the five innings, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits while striking out four and walking two.
Drabek (10-9, 3.12) got the nod for New Hampshire and recorded the victory by shutting out the Senators in his six innings of work, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking two. The All-Star starter worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the fourth with two strikeouts and a fly to center. With men on first and second with one out in the fifth, Drabek was the beneficiary of Josh Johnson's single to the right side of the infield ricocheting off base runner Adam Fox, which in turn gave the Fisher Cats an out by calling the play dead. Drabek followed by inducing another popup to center to leave two more Senators runners stranded on base.
The Fisher Cats finish the three-game home stand against the Senators in a Wednesday matinee at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire right-hander Zach Stewart (8-2, 4.01) will face off against Harrisburg's Brad Peacock in his first AA start. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 11:45 a.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
Fans will be playing USA Subs Baseball Bingo, as well as celebrating Camp Day/ Splash Day. After a four-game set Thursday-Sunday at Trenton, the Fisher Cats will return home to play Richmond and Bowie. For ticket information, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
