Tonight the SeaWolves look to avoid dropping back-to-back games as they take on the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) in the middle game of a three-game series at Jerry Uht Park. Last night, the 'Wolves and Curve battled in a tight game until the top of the eighth inning when Altoona put up a nine-spot en route to an 11-2 win over the 'Wolves. With the loss, Erie is 3-3 in the last six games. The Howlers have now lost five straight and six of their last seven games against Altoona. Erie took down the Curve in seven of the first 10 meetings and now have a losing record against their Western Division rivals...Righty Brayan Villarreal takes the mound for the 'Wolves making his 17th start of the season and his second in an Erie uniform. He took a loss despite a solid outing in his last start at Binghamton. In the game, Villarreal allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work...Righty Bryan Morris takes the mound for Altoona making his 12th start with the Curve and second against the SeaWolves. Morris picked up a win against Erie in his Double-A debut on May 21. He took a no-decision in his last start against Harrisburg allowing six runs on five hits with a season-high four walks and three strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .260 against Morris this season.
- Altoona leads the season series over Erie 8-7. The SeaWolves and Curve meet 20 times in 2010.- Defensively, the 'Wolves have committed 109 errors on the season which is the most in the league. Erie had gone seven games without committing an error prior to making three miscues in the field last night.- The 'Wolves have turned 123 double plays which ranks second in the EL.- The SeaWolves are eighth in the league with a 4.40 team ERA. Altoona is fourth in the league with a 3.68 team ERA. - The SeaWolves are last in the league with a .237 team batting average. Erie's only remaining road trips in July are a pair of four-game series, one at Akron and one at Binghamton.
