Hershey Bears News Release

Kelly Guard earned number one star honors by making 44 saves as the Binghamton Senators down the BEARS 4-0 Saturday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Binghamton struck first in the first period when Charlie Stephens beat Freddy Cassivi with a shot from the left circle at the 12:29 mark. The goal proved to be the only marker of the period, despite HERSHEY outshooting the Senators 15-11 after one. In the second period, the BEARS had two different five-on-three power play opportunities in the first five minutes but could not score against Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard. The Senators would strike at the 17:35 mark of the period when Jeff Heerema picked up his 11th goal of the season.

The Senators would add two more goals in the third period when Heerema added his second goal of the night at 5:22 and Joe Cullen potted his third of the season at 16:02. The loss was just the eighth of the season for HERSHEY in regulation this season.

The BEARS travel to Springfield Wednesday to face the Falcons in the third game of a four-game road trip. Face-off at Mass Mutual Center is at 7:05 p.m. HERSHEY'S next home game is Saturday, January 14 when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available through the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
