Adirondack Phantoms News Release

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Philadelphia Phantoms threw everything they had at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night, but were unable to slip a puck past Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin in a 1-0 loss at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored the game's only goal at 13:43 of the third period. Chris Kelleher slid a puck in front from the left-wing corner, where Kenny Garout was able to poke it past Rejean Beauchemin.

Sabourin stopped all 20 Philadelphia opportunities to earn the shutout. Beauchemin also put forth a solid effort, making several highlight-reel saves and showing no signs of rust in his first start for the Phantoms since November 12. He stopped 29 of 30 Penguins shots and earned the evening's third star for his efforts. It was the fifth time this season that Philadelphia has suffered a shutout, and the third time this season that the Phantoms have lost a game by a 1-0 score.

The game had its physical moments, as might have been expected with four of the top five members of the AHL's penalty-minute list on the ice. The top two players on that list, Philadelphia's Josh Gratton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Dennis Bonvie, fought in the second period. The Phantoms received 45 minutes in penalties and were 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Penguins were assessed 39 minutes and were scoreless in eight man-advantage opportunities.

The Phantoms return to the Spectrum ice on Sunday when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters at 5:05 PM. Tickets for all Phantoms games are on sale now online at phantomshockey.com or to charge by phone, call (215) 336-2000, (856) 338-9000 or (302) 984-2000. As always, all kids tickets for all Phantoms games are just $8.
