P-Bruins fall to Pirates 6-0

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 6-0 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Pirates scored the lone goal of the opening period at the 11:35 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Portland was on a 5 on 3 power play opportunity when Shane O'Brien took a shot from just inside the blueline and the puck slipped just inside the far post to put the Pirates up by a goal heading into the first intermission.

The Pirates added three more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 4-0. At the 5:01 mark Dustin Penner made a steal short handed and took a shot from the left circle, which beat P-Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas. Portland added two more even strength goals at the 12:07 mark from Simon Ferguson and at the 16:51 mark by Geoff Peters. With the fourth goals Thomas was lifted from net as mike Brown took his place and stopped the three shots he took in the period.

The Pirates added two more goals in the third period. At the 5:48 mark Jordan Smith scored his sixth goal of the season and at the 7:40 mark Corey Perry tallied his 16th goal of the season as the Pirates went on to defeat the P-Bruins 6-0.

Thomas stopped 20 of 24 shots and Brown stopped 9 for 11 for the P-Bruins, while Dieter Kochan stopped all 29 shots he faced. The P-Bruins were 0 for 11 on the power play, while Portland was 1 for 7 on the man-advantage.
