Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals opened up a 2-0 lead and held on for a 3-1 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Saturday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The loss snapped the Knights' three-game winning streak.
The Knights had several good chances to score in the first period but each time, they were met by goaltender Pekka Rinne who came into the game with a 0.96 goals-against average versus the Knights in two games.
The Admirals would break on top during a delayed penalty in the final ten seconds of the period. Greg Classen fed defenseman Kevin Klein for a booming slap shot that beat a screened Brent Krahn. It was Klein's fifth goal of the year.
Milwaukee doubled its lead early in the second period. While on the powerplay, Classen steered a pass from Kris Beech just under the crossbar for his 14th goal of the year.
The Knights put some heat on the Admirals when Craig MacDonald rammed home the rebound of shot by Dave Moss while the Knights were on the powerplay. The goal, MacDonald's second of the season, trimmed the Admirals' lead to 2-1.
Omaha outshot Milwaukee 14-10 in the third period, but it was the Admirals' tenth shot that sealed the win. Beech hit an empty net from just inside the blue line with for his fourth goal against the Knights in four games. Krahn turned in another strong performance for the Knights, making 23 saves but suffering the loss.
The Knights are now 16-15-1-7. They'll finish the weekend Sunday afternoon when they visit the Chicago Wolves for a 5:00 p.m. face-off.
