Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

Hamilton, ON - Bulldogs forward Jean-Francois Jacques scored one goal and added an assist as Hamilton defeated the Manitoba Moose by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum.

The Bulldogs have now won four games in a row on home ice, and three overall. Hamilton improved their record to 16-23-0-2 this season and is a perfect 3-0-0-0 in 2006.

Jacques opened the scoring on the power play at the 11:28 mark of the first period, scoring his 11th goal of the season. He positioned himself in front of the Manitoba crease and banged home a rebound after Manitoba goaltender Wade Flaherty stopped shots from both Corey Locke and Alexander Perezhogin. Perezhogin's assist was his first point since he was assigned to Hamilton on January 2nd.

Hamilton's lead was short lived as former Bulldog defenceman Sven Butenschon notched his 11th goal of the season just 2:20 later with the Moose on a two-man advantage. Butenschon received a pass from Tomas Mojzis and one-timed a point shot past Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis.

Manitoba took a 2-1 lead at 17:03 when Jesse Schultz skated down the left wing and snapped a shot that beat Danis high on the glove side. The goal was Schultz's 20th of the season, and Manitoba's 2nd of the night on the power play.

Bulldogs defenceman Johnathan Aitken tied the game at the 5:14 mark of the second period, when he beat Flaherty low on the blocker side for his first goal of the season. Drawing the lone assist was forward Maxim Lapierre, who has registered at least one point in back-to-back games.

Hamilton took a 3-2 lead at 14:05 when forward Peter Vandermeer picked a loose puck out of a scramble in front of Flaherty and chipped it over the Moose netminder for his 3rd goal of the season. Assists on the play went to Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Jacques.

Danis made 32 saves to earn his third straight win, and was named the game's second star. Flaherty stopped 28 shots and suffered the loss.

Jacques had his first multi-point game since November 29 when the Bulldogs were visiting the Moose. Vandermeer's goal was his first since November 9 vs. Binghamton. Two of his three goals this season have been game-winners.

Hamilton was 1 for 7 with the man advantage while Manitoba was 2 for 7.

Hamilton's next home action will take place on Friday, January 13 when the Syracuse Crunch make their fourth and final visit of the season to Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Copps Coliseum Box Office (in-person sales only), any Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.ca, or at Sports Obsession in Jackson Square.
