Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - On Saturday night the Binghamton Senators were able to get back on the winning track with a 4-0 win against the visiting Hershey Bears. The 3,987 fans in attendance were treated to an outstanding performance as the Sens picked up their third shutout of the season, which is one better than their total from all of last season.

Charlie Stephens kicked off the scoring at the 12:29 mark of the opening frame to give the Sens a one-goal advantage. Stephens took a pass from teammate Grant Potulny and hustled down the wing, before firing a wrist shot just over the left pad of Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi. Potulny and Tomas Malec each recorded an assist on Stephens' tenth goal of the year.

Jeff Heerema added to the Sens lead at the 17:35 mark of the middle frame.

Stephens and Potulny each recorded their second point of the evening with an assist on the goal.

Heerema's second goal of the night gave the winger 200 points in his AHL career and lifted Binghamton to a 3-0 lead.

With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, forward Joe Cullen added insult to injury for the Bears by netting his third goal of the year and giving Binghamton a 4-0 advantage.

Kelly Guard was brilliant in net for Binghamton, turning away all 44 shots that he faced and establish a new season high for saves in a single game by a Binghamton net minder. Frederic Cassivi was saddled with the loss for the Bears. He made 26 saves on 30 shots.

The Senators were limited to only three power-play chances, failing to capitalize on any of them. Binghamton's penalty-killing unit was put to the test however and came up big by shutting down the Bears on all 11 opportunities.

Binghamton hit the road immediately following the game en route to Providence for a 4:05 battle with the Bruins on Sunday.
