Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - The Indians mighty offense finally met a foe they couldn't overcome, as Tri-City starter Christian Bergman (3-3) held Spokane scoreless over seven superb innings in the Dust Devils 3-1 win in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,823 fans at Avista Stadium.
Bergman, a right-hander from UC-Irvine, kept the Indians off-balance all night long as he allowed just four hits in his finest performance of the season. Nelson Gonzalez allowed one unearned run in two innings to pick up the save.
The Indians offense came into the game leading the league in runs, but only managed one Saturday night against a talented Tri-City pitching staff. Drew Robinson singled up the middle in the bottom of the ninth to score Brett Nicholas, but rightfielder Guillermo Pimentel was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play to end the game.
Nick Martinez, who arrived in Spokane last night, pitched five effective innings in relief of David Perez (0-3), holding the Dust Devils to one run and striking out six batters. Matt West pitched a scoreless ninth that included two strikeouts.
The game was followed by a spectacular fireworks display courtesy of The Spokesman-Review and a Park University Post-Game Movie on the Hall of Fame Plaza.
Spokane now trails Tri-City by one game in the Northwest League Eastern Division with two games remaining in the first half. Boise was eliminated from contention with their loss to Yakima.
Spokane heads on the road for a three game series with Boise (Chicago Cubs) before returning to Avista Stadium on Wednesday, July 27th against Eugene (San Diego Padres) for Kids Run the Ballpark Night presented by ITRON and 95.3 KPND. Enjoy a pint-sized P.A. announcer, grounds crew, and more as kids are put in charge of the stadium! After the game is a Supercuts Post-Game Circle the Bases Promotion.
