PK Park - Eugene, OR - With a sense of urgency, the Canadians pounded out 16 hits against the Eugene Emeralds helping them to a convincing 7-1 victory on Friday night that moved Vancouver into a tie for top spot in the Northwest League.
The C's scored a run in each of the first three innings to grab an early lead before 3B Balbino Fuenmayor hit a two-run home run off of Eugene starter RHP James Needy in the top of the 5th inning to help Vancouver to a 5-0 lead.
Canadians RHP Blake McFarland dazzled on Friday night as he limited the Emeralds offense to just three hits over his six innings of work. His only blemish on an otherwise fantastic night came in the bottom of the 6th inning when he gave up a lead-off single to CF Mykal Stokes who then advanced over to third base on a pair of wild pitches before scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of RF Lee Orr cutting the Vancouver lead to 5-1.
The Canadians would get that run back seconds later in the top of the 7th inning when CF Jon Jones would draw a walk off of Emeralds reliever LHP Jeremy Gigliotti, advance out to second base on a ground out from RF Nick Baligod and score on an RBI single from DH Steve McQuail.
Vancouver would tack on a run in the top of the 8th inning to win going away, the final 7-1.
With the win, Vancouver improves to 23-12 (.657) on the season, tied for top spot in the Northwest League's West Division with Eugene who falls to 23-12 (.657) with the loss.
