Frogs Snap Five Game Skid With 14-Run Outburst
July 23, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. -- In front of a sellout crowd at Everett Memorial Stadium, the Everett AquaSox (14-22) snapped their five game losing streak by exploding for ten runs in the first four innings to defeat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (15-21) by a score of 14-3, with five Sox recording multi-RBI games.
Frogs center-fielder Jarrett Burgess led the team in the game with 4 RBI and was a single away from the cycle, the second time this season he has been one hit away from recording the first cycle in the Northwest League. Burgess hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to up his total RBI to 18, second most on the team.
Everett right-fielder Mario Yepez extended his hitting streak to ten games, tying him with James Wood for the longest hitting streak by an AquaSox player this season. Yepez is batting .436 during the hitting streak, and he has hit safely in the last 14 games he has started. Yepez and two other Frogs totaled two RBIs in the first three innings, including designated hitter James Wood who increased his team high total in RBI to 22.
Sox starter Stephen Landazuri (4-2, 4.89 ERA) became the ninth pitcher in the Northwest League to reach four wins by allowing one run off five hits and a walk while striking out five. Landazuri has allowed six total runs in his three starts at Everett Memorial this season.
Left-fielder Jabari Blash got the Sox to double-digit runs for only the second time in 36 games when he blasted a two-run shot in the fourth which cleared the left-field net and hit the building complex across the street from the stadium. Blash recorded his team-high sixth home run and second multi-homer game of the season by adding another home run in the sixth inning.
The Sox now head to play a three-game series with division-leading Eugene, who leads the West by one game over of the Vancouver Canadians after a 2-1 victory Saturday night, but hold the tie-breaker in head-to-head record over Vancouver. Game-time is 5:05 p.m. on Fox Sports 1380 KRKO.
