Win at Boise Gives Bears First Road Series Win

July 23, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL) - Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears defeated the Boise Hawks 4-1 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The win gave the Bears the series win, as Yakima took two of the three games. The series win was the first on the road this season for the Bears.

Starting pitcher Brad Wilson got into his now typical first-inning trouble, but he also had another now typical strong start. Wilson loaded the bases two separate times in the first inning, but allowed only one run. That was the only run Wilson allowed in five innings of work, as he earned the win for the third time in his last three starts.

The bullpen looked just as good, pitching four scoreless innings to preserve the lead the Bears took in the second inning. Adam Osteen tossed two scoreless, while Sammy De Los Santos and Justin Albert each pitched one inning without allowing a run. Albert pitched the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

The Bears offense responded in the second inning after falling behind 1-0 in the first. David Narrodowski led off with a single and then scored off of a two-run home run by Justin Hilt that bounced off the top of the right centerfield wall and then over. Danny Pulfer scored later in the inning thanks to single by Carter Bell. Marc Bourgeois scored the other run for the Bears, as he led off the eighth inning with a triple and came home when Narodowski singled.

The Bears totaled nine hits and six walks in the victory. Narodowski and Marc Bourgeois both finished 2-for-4 in the game.

The defense was also a key component of the win. The Bears turned two double plays and had two outfield assists. Right fielder Justin Hilt was part of both in the sixth inning when he caught a fly ball and then threw out a runner at home.

Yakima is now 13-23 on the season. The Bears return home for a three-game series against the Tri-City Dust Devils, with the first game scheduled for 5:35 Sunday. The Sunday game features a great right-handed pitching match-up between Teo Gutierrez of the Bears and Vianney Mayo of the Dust Devils.
