Bridgeport Islanders News Release
San Antonio, TX - Trevor Smith's goal with less than three minutes to play in the third period helped the Sound Tigers snatch a 3-1 third period come-from-behind victory over the San Antonio Rampage. Ben Walter broke Rampage starting goalie, Josh Tordjman's shutout bid, with his second goal of the season and Mike Iggulden sealed the game with an empty-net tally with only four seconds remaining in the game. Derek Nesbitt had the lone goal for San Antonio in the opening period. Nathan Lawson was in between the pipes for the Sound Tigers and stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced to improve his perfect record to 4-0, while Tordjman made 23 saves. The win ups the Sound Tigers record, which is tops in the league, to 13-3-0-2, giving them 28 points.
The ice was tilted on the Sound Tigers in the first period as the Rampage fired 11 shots on Lawson, but the rookie net-minder was able to keep San Antonio off the board. The Sound Tigers best chance of the period came off a goal-mouth scramble when Mike Iggulden had two shots from the slot but was unable to get the puck past Rampage starter, Tordjman.
San Antonio would take the lead in the second period while on the power-play when Nesbitt tipped his first goal of the season past Lawson. Alex Bourret started the play when he fed a pass to Enver Lisin at the point where Lisin blasted a slap-shot towards the net. Nesbitt, parked in front, was able to redirect the puck through Lawson's legs to give the Rampage the 1-0 lead, 1:42 into the middle frame.
Walter erased the goose-egg from the score-board for the Sound Tigers when he jammed in a loose puck at the right post through Tordjman to tie the game at one. Blake Comeau snapped a shot on net that Tordjman thought he had trapped under his right pad, but Walter was there to push it through for his second marker this season. Jeremy Colliton also had an assist on the tally. Smith would grab the lead for the Sound Tigers and complete their second straight third period comeback after the team scored two third period goals in the final period of regulation against the Houston Aeros on Sunday to win 3-2 in the shootout. Chris Lee took a pass from Iggulden at the left point and wristed a shot on net that Tordjman stopped but Smith was there to slide the puck past the sprawled out net-minder for his sixth tally this season. Iggulden would seal the victory for the Sound Tigers, scoring his team leading 11th goal this season, when he fired the puck from the blue-line into the empty net to close out the scoring at 3-1.
On the man-advantage, the Sound Tigers were 0-for-4 while the Rampage used their power-play to tally their lone marker, going 1-for-5.
